    Computation of internal voltage distribution in transformer windings by utilizing a voltage distribution factor

    Abstract--In this paper, a method for the application of the black-box transformer models to the lumped-parameter transformer winding models is presented. The methodology is based on applying terminal transformer voltages as input parameters that could be provided by using the powerful black box vector fitting. Then, internal voltage distribution is determined by applying a lumped-parameter model approximation. In particular, the paper is focused on the direct computation of the internal voltage distribution, by avoiding a complicated procedure of solving the lumped-parameter winding model. The method is based on the transformation matrix utilization of the voltage distribution factors. This transformation matrix reflects the voltage distribution at specific internal points along the winding with respect to the input terminal voltages. At this stage, the inputs for the lumped-parameters model are provided by measured voltages at transformer terminals and the transformation matrix is determined through geometrical data of the transformer. The implementation of the proposed method with the black-box modeling approach in existing simulation software tools like EMTP is under development. The method is verified by comparing measured with computed waveforms

    New Cycle-based Formulation, Cost Function, and Heuristics for DC OPF Based Controlled Islanding

    This paper presents a new formulation for intentional controlled islanding (ICI) of power transmission grids based on mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) DC optimal power flow (OPF) model. We highlight several deficiencies of the most well-known formulation for this problem and propose new enhancements for their improvement. In particular, we propose a new alternative optimization objective that may be more suitable for ICI than the minimization of load shedding, a new set of island connectivity constraints, and a new set of constraints for DC OPF with switching, and a new MILP heuristic to find initial feasible solutions for ICI. It is shown that the proposed improvements help to reduce the final optimality gaps as compared to the benchmark model on several test instances.Comment: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.epsr.2022.10858

    A Role for Fibrillar Collagen Deposition and the Collagen Internalization Receptor Endo180 in Glioma Invasion

    Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM, WHO grade IV) is the most common and most malignant of astrocytic brain tumors, and is associated with rapid invasion into neighboring tissue. In other tumor types it is well established that such invasion involves a complex interaction between tumor cells and locally produced extracellular matrix. In GBMs, surprisingly little is known about the associated matrix components, in particular the fibrillar proteins such as collagens that are known to play a key role in the invasion of other tumor types.In this study we have used both the Masson's trichrome staining and a high resolution multiple immunofluorescence labeling method to demonstrate that intratumoral fibrillar collagens are an integral part of the extracellular matrix in a subset of GBMs. Correlated with this collagen deposition we observed high level expression of the collagen-binding receptor Endo180 (CD280) in the tumor cells. Further, interrogation of multiple expression array datasets identified Endo180 as one of the most highly upregulated transcripts in grade IV GBMs compared to grade III gliomas. Using promoter analysis studies we show that this increased expression is, in part, mediated via TGF-β signaling. Functionally, we demonstrate that Endo180 serves as the major collagen internalization receptor in GBM cell lines and provide the first evidence that this activity is critical for the invasion of GBM cells through fibrillar collagen matrices.This study demonstrates, for the first time, that fibrillar collagens are extensively deposited in GBMs and that the collagen internalization receptor Endo180 is both highly expressed in these tumors and that it serves to mediate the invasion of tumor cells through collagen-containing matrices. Together these data provide important insights into the mechanism of GBM invasion and identify Endo180 as a potential target to limit matrix turnover by glioma cells and thereby restrict tumor progression

    Protection testing for multiterminal high-voltage dc grid : procedures and assessment

    The application of multiterminal (MT), high-voltage dc (HVdc) (MTdc) grid technology requires test procedures for the operation and implementation of the protection solutions. The test procedures are usually derived from experience and from extensive measurement data, which, at present, are still not widely available. Based on a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) method, advanced dc protection testing strategies, utilizing existing experience for ac grids and requirements for MTdc grids, may overcome this gap. This article proposes procedures and guidelines for testing system-level dc protection based on the functionality of MTdc grids for both primary and backup dc protection. Specific performance criteria have been defined, based on multicase testing and statistical analysis, with the considerations of related critical testing parameters for each functional requirement of the dc protection. Accordingly, procedures for a dc protection testing environment and various fault scenarios are defined.
